I began this project in March 2010, photographing the fascinating river culture of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. The allure of each bend in the river pulled me north, wanting to explore what lay ahead. Floating villages, stilt towns and busy river ports lead to Southeast Asia’s largest lake, the Tonle Sap. Up a small tributary were the lost cities of Ankor. Fantastically exotic temples swallowed by the jungle. After one month of travel, I knew I had just scratched the surface of this wild and remarkable part of the world.

The following year I returned for two months intent on starting where I had left off in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Traveling by boat, motorbike, bus and even elephant, I followed the Mekong up-river through Laos. Mystic karst mountains, gold temples and ethnic minority villages greeted me. Like with all good travel, I came home a bit different, more thankful and I’d like to think a better citizen of the world.
