Tuscany Photo Workshop Itinerary
Day 1 Saturday, September 15 Florence to Radda in Chianti
We will meet at a pre-determined location in Florence at 9:00 AM and spend the morning photographing along the Arno River, including the famed Ponte Vecchio and Loggia Della Signoria. After lunch outside Florence, we continue on to Fattoria Poggerino in Chianti, our base for the workshop. Along the route, we’ll stop to record the beautiful Tuscan landscape. When we arrive in the afternoon you’ll have an opportunity to settle in and explore the grounds. We’ll then gather from 6 to 9 PM, enjoying some of the local wine and a slide presentation before dinner prepared from the bounty of the Poggerino Vineyard.
Day 2 Sunday, September 16 Radda in Chianti
We stay in Radda today. After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll have a guided tour of the vineyard and then venture into the picturesque center of the village. In the afternoon, you’ll be able to photograph as you like and get input from Nick. We’ll then head back to the hotel for some time to work on your images and additional instruction using the Adobe Raw converter. For dinner we’ll drive to the small medieval castle of Volpaia.
Day 3 Monday, September 17 Castellino and San Gimignano
Meet for breakfast and then depart at 8 AM for a combination of visits. First to the walled Tuscan Village of Castellino, and then San Gimignano, famous for it’s many tower homes. As always, stops will be made along the way when beautiful landscape presents itself. We return to Villa Poggerino in the late afternoon for free time to work on your photographs or relax. Then meet in the early evening for a casual group dinner in town.
Day 4 Tuesday, September 18 Siena and Val d’Orcia
Today is a long day of photography. After an early breakfast, we will proceed to Siena, often referred to as Italy’s most beautiful hill town, with its enormous scalloped-shaped Campo, its marble black and white striped Duomo facade, and its superior placement on three ridges, offering beautiful vistas over this medieval city. We’ll break for lunch, and then drive 25 miles south to San Quirico d’Orcia and the beautiful Val d’Orcia. We’ll be out until sunset this day to capture the long shadows on the classic Tuscan landscape. Dinner will be on our way back to Villa Poggerino.
Day 5 Wednesday, September 19 Montefioralle and Monterinaldi
A relaxed breakfast is followed by a late morning departure from Villa Poggerino. We will head into the countryside to visit the stunning castle towns of Montefioralle and Monterinaldi where we’ll enjoy a vineyard tour and lunch. In the early afternoon, we’ll head back to Poggerino to edit images and receive instruction in creating an audio slideshow of your best images from our time together. At 6 PM we will gather one last time for our final group slideshow and dinner at the hotel.
Day 6 Thursday, September 20 Radda to Florence
After saying our goodbyes, we provide transportation to the Florence train station after an early breakfast. From here, you can travel to your next destination – Rome to fly home, Venice, or someplace else on your own.
Last September’s Amalfi Photo Workshop participants came up with some extraordinary images from our few days together. Take some time to page through it.
